We started by doing some vocal and movement warm ups with the level 3 acting students, as this is the course we are aspiring to go onto next year, so warming up with them is great. One of the specific types of warm ups we did focused on was arpeggio. An arpeggio is going up and down singing scales. This is beneficial in pitch training. Below is an example of the Arpeggio scales we do to warm up.
We then looked more into performing the entire showcase. This is important before you do your actual performance so that you don't mess up any lines or and movements that you are doing during your performance. Throughout the week we started looking at transitioning between acts. Transitions is the process of moving between different acts or in our case performances. For example, for my sketch i will need a table and chairs. So we began to plan how the transition will form and who will bring the props on.
We also played some improv games such as 'park bench'. Two chairs will be placed in the centre of the classroom, one student will be sat down and then another student will come and sit down on the 'park bench'. The student sat down first will create a character and the other student must improvise and go along with the story. This game focuses on improving characterisation skills and the ability to improvise. When performing in a show, it is important to be able to be able to think on your feet if yourself or someone else forgets a line.
The rest of this week was working on showcase and getting feedback from our tutor and also from other students. Here is a snippet from our performance of 'when i grow up' from Matilda the musical.
